“Seats and Representation Both to Rise—BJP Counters Congress Narrative with Facts and Transparency”: Vandana Yogi
Shimla : BJP State Secretary Vandana Yogi strongly rebutted the statements made by Congress leader Alka Lamba during her recent press conference in Shimla, accusing the Congress party of deliberately misleading the public on critical issues such as Women’s Reservation, delimitation, and caste census.
Yogi stated that Congress is attempting to create a false narrative that the proposed constitutional amendments and delimitation exercise would reduce the political representation of southern states in the Lok Sabha.
“This claim is completely baseless and misleading. In reality, the representation of southern states will not diminish—it will either remain stable or increase,” she asserted.
Backing her argument with data, Yogi highlighted:
Karnataka: Seats will increase from 28 to 42; representation remains nearly stable (5.15% to 5.14%)
Andhra Pradesh: From 25 to 38 seats; representation rises from 4.60% to 4.65%
Telangana: From 17 to 26 seats; representation increases from 3.13% to 3.18%
Tamil Nadu: From 39 to around 59 seats; representation rises from 7.18% to 7.23%
Kerala: From 20 to 30 seats; representation remains stable (3.68% to 3.67%)
She further emphasized that the overall representation of southern states would increase from approximately 23.76% to nearly 24%, clearly disproving Congress’ claims.
“The data clearly shows that no state is losing its political weight. Congress is spreading confusion because it lacks both credibility and constructive political direction,” Yogi added.
On the issue of Women’s Reservation, she accused Congress of hypocrisy:
“When it came to granting 33% reservation to women, Congress opposed it. Today, the same party is shedding crocodile tears in the name of women’s rights.”
She reiterated that BJP is the only political organization that has consistently ensured substantial representation of women—from grassroots organizational levels to national leadership—and under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, women empowerment has been a top priority.
Addressing concerns around caste census, Yogi clarified that the Union Government has already taken a decision to include caste enumeration in the upcoming census.
“Census is a scientific and phased process. Misrepresenting it for political gains only exposes Congress’ intent to mislead,” she said.
On delimitation, she categorically rejected Congress’ allegations of manipulation:
“There has been no change in the Delimitation Commission Act. It remains the same legal framework that existed under previous Congress governments. Raising doubts now only reflects political desperation.”
She further clarified that delimitation changes will not have an immediate electoral impact.
“The process will only take effect after parliamentary approval and presidential assent, and will not influence elections before 2029,” she added.
Concluding her statement, Vandana Yogi said:
“Congress’ entire strategy revolves around misinformation and fear-mongering. However, the people of India are now well-informed and capable of distinguishing facts from propaganda. BJP will continue to respond with clarity, transparency, and facts.”
She expressed confidence that the people of the country will continue to support BJP’s commitment to women empowerment, fair representation, and strengthening democratic institutions.
