Chandigarh Police Intensifies Anti-Drug Campaign in Pursuit of a Drug-Free Chandigarh

Chandigarh:  In furtherance of the vision of the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, for making Chandigarh a safe and drug-free city, Chandigarh Police has intensified its campaign against the menace of drugs across the city. As part of the intensified anti-drug campaign, comprehensive checking of past criminals and persons previously involved in drug-related activities is being undertaken, with special focus on their present activities, movements and possible linkages. Simultaneously, searches and checking are being conducted at identified drug hotspots and vulnerable locations on the basis of field intelligence and local inputs, with the objective of detecting and disrupting drug trafficking, sale and possession.
During the campaign, 04 FIRs were registered and 04 accused persons were arrested in drug-related cases. A total of 30.54 grams of heroin was recovered in these cases. Further, 26 Kalandras were prepared, resulting in the apprehension of 26 persons. Special patrolling and area domination exercises were also carried out in vulnerable and identified areas, including Bapu Dham, Kajheri, Burail, Maloya, Mauli Jagran and other sensitive locations. A total of 46 area-domination nakas were conducted, during which 1,233 vehicles were checked. Overall, more than 3,000 persons were checked as part of the intensified checking drive. Focused operations were conducted at identified 58 drug hotspots, resulting in the arrest of 06 persons and detention of 34 persons for verification and further necessary action. In addition, 33 targeted searches were conducted at identified locations, during which 60 persons were apprehended and 48 persons were detained for verification and further necessary action. Police teams maintained increased visibility through regular foot and vehicle patrolling, joint patrolling with Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), checking of suspicious persons and vehicles, and close monitoring of activities in vulnerable areas. These measures are aimed at preventing drug-related activities, identifying emerging drug hotspots and strengthening the sense of safety and security among residents. The campaign reflects the zero-tolerance approach of Chandigarh Police towards drug trafficking, sale, possession and other activities facilitating the illegal drug trade. Focused enforcement action will continue against drug suppliers, peddlers, repeat offenders and other persons involved in the drug network. Chandigarh Police reiterates its commitment to translating the vision of a Drug-Free Chandigarh into concrete action through sustained enforcement, preventive policing, intelligence-based operations and active public cooperation. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and extend their cooperation to the police in identifying and reporting drug-related activities in their neighbourhoods.
