Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) Meeting: Discussied Serious Issue & Apealed To SGPC ...

Chandigarh: Today, an important meeting of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha was held at Kisan Bhawan, Chandigarh. During the meeting, the Morcha discussed several serious issues and presented its clear stand on various matters. The Morcha first thanked the people from Punjab and all other states who extended help during the recent floods in Punjab. The leaders stated that Joginder Singh Ugrahan must provide concrete proof for his allegations that Farmers’ Protest-2 (Shambhu Border) had BJP’s support. The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha also said that the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) must make its stand clear before the public on this issue.
The leaders informed that the meeting deliberated on the devastating floods of 2025 and clarified that both the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Central government are responsible for this destruction. The Morcha challenged the Punjab government to release a white paper disclosing how many farmers received compensation during the 2023 floods and how many victims are still left unattended. The Morcha announced that on 6 October 2025, effigies of the Punjab government will be burnt to awaken the authorities and compel them to compensate the flood victims swiftly. KMM reiterated its core demand that flood-affected farmers must receive at least Rs. 70,000 per acre as compensation and agricultural labourers must receive 10% of that amount.

On the issue of stubble burning, the Morcha leaders presented recent statistics and studies which show that farmers’ contribution to pollution is less than 6%. Despite this, courts and governments continue to put the entire blame on farmers and impose harsh fines and punishments on them. On the other hand, the government has given huge relaxations to industries in relevant laws and even removed clauses carrying jail sentences. The leaders demanded that farmers should be provided at least Rs. 6,000 per acre as support for stubble management so that the issue can be resolved at the ground level.

The Morcha also appealed to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and local panchayats not to collect any contract fees from farmers living in flood-affected areas. It also expressed serious concern over the incident in Nabha, where KMM’s member union BKU Ekta Azad staged a protest against the Nabha police. The Morcha alleged that police shielded the accused leader Pankaj Pappu in the trolley theft case, while the concerned DSP adopted a biased approach instead of taking lawful action. KMM demanded an impartial inquiry from Punjab’s DGP.

Finally, the Morcha warned the government that paddy procurement in the coming days must take place smoothly and no injustice should be done to farmers. The leaders said that whenever the government fails to fulfil its responsibilities, farmers are forced to take to the streets, which is not in the state’s interest.

The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha appealed to all farmers, labourers, and common people of Punjab to unite and further strengthen the struggle to protect their land, villages, and Punjab.
