Chandigarh Police Conducted Mock Drill at Student Centre, Punjab University, Sector-14, Chandigarh to Strengthen Emergency Response Preparedness.

                   In view of the prevailing security scenario and the forthcoming Independence Day celebrations, the Operations Cell of Chandigarh Police conducted a comprehensive Mock Drill at Student Centre, Punjab University, Sector-14, Chandigarh on 08.08.2026. The exercise was carried out under the direction of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, SP/Operations, and under the supervision of Sh. Ranjodh Singh, DSP/Operations, to assess the preparedness, response capability, and inter-agency coordination among Chandigarh Police and other emergency response agencies of the Chandigarh Administration.

                   The mock exercise commenced with simulated information regarding the presence of a suspected explosive device at the Student Centre, Punjab University, Sector-14, Chandigarh premises. Immediately upon receipt of the information, the Student Centre was cordoned off and evacuated by the commandos of the Operations Cell to ensure the safety of occupants and visitors. Simultaneously, a coordinated search operation was launched by the HIT Teams, Bomb Detection Squad, and Dog Squad of Chandigarh Police.

                   During the operation, the search teams successfully trace out dummy Improvised Explosive Device (IED) placed near letter box at Student Centre, Punjab University, Sector-14, Chandigarh. Following the recovery, the area was thoroughly sanitized to rule out the presence of any additional suspicious objects.

                   The exercise witnessed the active participation of all major emergency response agencies, including Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) of the Operations Cell, PCR Units, Dial-112, Fire Brigade, Civil Defense, Bomb Detection Squad, Dog Squad, Mobile Forensic Team, District Crime Cell, Crime Branch, Police post-PU, Police Station Sector-11, SDPO/Central, Ambulance Services from GMSH-16 and Police Hospital, Sector-26, and other supporting agencies. All participating teams responded promptly and demonstrated effective coordination in handling the simulated emergency.

                   The recovered dummy IED was safely transported to the open grounds of Police Lines, Sector-26, Chandigarh, in a sandbag vehicle under proper pilot and escort by PCR vehicles for safe disposal as per the prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Thereafter, a final sanitization search of the hotel premises was conducted, and the mock exercise concluded successfully.

                   The mock drill effectively demonstrated the operational preparedness, professionalism, and seamless coordination of Chandigarh Police and all participating emergency services in responding to critical security situations. Such exercises are being conducted regularly to enhance preparedness, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and ensure the safety and security of the citizens of Chandigarh.
