Senior BJP Leader Sanjay Tandon participates in Tiranga Yatra

Panchkula, August 13, 2026: Senior BJP leader,  member of the BJP National Council  and  Co-Incharge of Himachal Pradesh BJP - Sanjay Tandon, participated in a Tiranga Yatra(Walk) organised in Panchkula to honour the memory and supreme sacrifice of Major Sandeep Shankla, Ashoka Chakra (Posthumous). The yatra was organised in the run up to Independence Day celebrations under the leadership of Gian Chand Gupta, Former Speaker, Haryana Vidhan Sabha and Programme Convenor, along with Jai Kaushik, Programme Co-Convenor. 



Ajay Mittal, President, BJP Panchkula also took part in the yatra. Sham Lal Bansal, Mayor, Panchkula; and Om Prakash Devinagar, Chairman, Shivalik Vikas Board, were other dignitaries who  participated in the Tiranga Yatra.


Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay Tandon said that the Tiranga Yatra was a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the nation's armed forces and a reminder of the responsibility of every citizen towards the country.


He said that  through the Tiranga Yatra we  reaffirmed our  commitment to keeping alive the spirit of patriotism, national unity and respect for the country's armed forces.


The Tiranga Yatra commenced from Geeta Chowk (Shalimar Ground) and culminated at the Martyr's Memorial -  Major Sandeep Shankla Chowk, where floral tributes were paid to the gallant soldier. A large number of BJP councillors, workers and Panchkula residents participated in the yatra carrying the Tricolour.


Major Sandeep Shankla of the 18th Battalion, The Dogra Regiment, was awarded the Ashoka Chakra (Posthumous) for his exceptional courage during a counter-terrorism operation in Kupwara, Jammu & Kashmir, in 1991, where he led his men from the front and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
