Environment Week: Chandigarh Councillors undertake exposure visit to strengthen Solid Waste Management

Chandigarh, June 6:- As part of the Environment Week celebrations and the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh’s commitment to promoting sustainable urban development, an exposure visit to key solid waste management facilities was organized for Municipal Councillors under the supervision of Joint Commissioner Sh. Balbir Raj Singh.



The visit aimed to provide councillors with firsthand exposure to Chandigarh’s waste management infrastructure and strengthen their understanding of the effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. During the tour, the councillors visited the city’s dumping site, garbage processing plant, and Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), where they were briefed on scientific waste segregation, processing, recycling, and disposal practices being adopted by the Municipal Corporation.


A special highlight of the visit was the interaction with women employees working at the Pink Material Recovery Facility (Pink MRF). The councillors appreciated their dedication and invaluable contribution towards waste segregation, resource recovery, and environmental conservation. The women workers were felicitated for their exemplary services and commitment to maintaining a cleaner and greener city.



Speaking on the occasion, the Joint Commissioner emphasized that such exposure visits play a crucial role in enhancing awareness, building capacity, and encouraging informed decision-making among public representatives. He stated that strengthening stakeholder participation is essential for achieving sustainable waste management goals.


Reiterating its commitment to environmental protection during Environment Week, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh appealed to citizens to actively participate in source segregation of waste, adopt eco-friendly practices, and contribute towards preserving the cleanliness, sustainability, and beauty of the City Beautiful.
