LUDHIANA, October 13: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today expressed grave concern over the reported move of the Punjab Government to sell off 2000 acres of “precious land” belonging to the Punjab Agricultural University.
Reacting to reports, Warring said, if true this will be the worst ever decision of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab. “PAU is the soul of Green Revolution and it has sustained the agriculture in the state against all odds”, he said, while adding, taking away the PAU land is like selling off your mother’s jewellery, which is not only criminal but shameful also.
The Ludhiana MP noted that the PAU is not only famous in Punjab and the country, it is known world over for the agriculture research. He said, the land is meant for research and if the government has really decided to sell off the land meant for research, it has no right to continue in the office.
He said, farmers in Punjab will not allow an inch of the PAU land to be taken away and they will launch a similar movement like the one against the three black farm laws.
“If the AAP government assumes that it can sell the family silver at the fag end of its tenure for the next government to face the repercussions, it is badly mistaken as we will not let that happen”, he asserted while warning anyone and everyone who may reach some deal about the PAU land that the next government will not only cancel it but also probe and investigate it.
“We will not allow the loot at any cost and if anyone tries we ensure law takes its own course”, he added.
