Chandigarh : The 41st Annual National Workshop on Clinical Pharmacology (NWCP 2025) began today at the PGIMER, Chandigarh, organized by the Clinical Pharmacology Unit, Department of Pharmacology. The prestigious week-long event brings together eminent experts, academicians, researchers, and postgraduate trainees from across India to deliberate on advances in drug development, clinical trials, and rational therapeutics.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with the traditional lamp lighting, marking the formal opening of the workshop. Prof. Samir Malhotra, Head, Department of Pharmacology, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the department’s pioneering role in advancing clinical pharmacology education and translational research at PGIMER.
Prof. Vipin Kaushal, Medical Superintendent, PGIMER, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and addressed the gathering. In his inaugural remarks, he commended the department’s longstanding contribution to promoting ethical and evidence-based clinical research and emphasized the importance of strengthening interdisciplinary collaborations for better patient outcomes.
The highlight of the event was an inspiring address by Prof. P. L. Sharma, Founder of the National Workshop on Clinical Pharmacology, who spoke on “How the Discipline of Clinical Pharmacology Evolved with Time.” He recalled the formative years of the discipline and underscored its vital role in ensuring safe, effective, and individualized therapy.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Ashish Kakkar, who acknowledged the invaluable guidance of senior faculty, the participation of delegates, and the institutional support that has sustained the NWCP legacy.
Following the inauguration, the academic sessions began with Dr. Shoibal Mukherjee’s talk on “Academic Research Units,” followed by Prof. Nusrat Shafiq’s session on “Clinical Pharmacology in India – Taking Stock.” Subsequent lectures by Dr. Shoibal Mukherjee and Dr. Gunjan Kumar focused on data management systems and multicenter clinical research design, culminating in a hands-on protocol development exercise led by Prof. Nusrat Shafiq and Dr. Ashish Kakkar.
The workshop will continue throughout the week with expert-led sessions and practical demonstrations on pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenomics, health technology assessment, and ethical aspects of clinical research, amongst contemporary topics,
