Mohali, 16 February 2026: The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPER), S.A.S. Nagar, an Institute of National Importance, enacted by the Act of Parliament (NIPER Act 1998) under the aegis of Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Department of Pharmaceuticals Govt. of India celebrated its Foundation Day today i.e. on 16.02.2026 (Monday).
Prof. Dulal Panda the Director, NIPER welcomed the Chief Guest, Prof. Anil Kumar Tripathi, Director, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali and the Guest of Honour, Dr. Chandrasekhar Nair, Executive Director and Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Molbio Diagnostics and BigtecLabs, invitees and audience.
Prof. Panda highlighted that we must excel in research and translation so that India can truly grow as a global power in terms of healthcare technologies, including medicines and medical devices so that dependence on import can be reduced. In line with the NEP, he also announced the inception of two new Masters courses in Biopharmaceuticals and regulatory Sciences at NIPER, Mohali. He also presented the Annual Report of the institute highlighting major achievements in academics, research and grants, patents, placements, MoUs, and outreach activities during the year. He mentioned NIPER SAS Nagar, a leading institution for higher education and research, has always laid emphasis on industry relevant teaching programs.
The foundation day address by the Chief Guest Prof. Anil Kumar Tripathi, Director, IISER, Mohali on “Harnessing the potential of medicinal plants: Opportunities and challenges”. In his talk, he detailed the use of medicinal plants and herbal medicines for improvement in many diseases like stroke, heart attack, cancer, obesity, diabetes etc. and also discussed the challenges India is facing to produce quality herbal medicines due to their adulteration.
Dr. Chandrasekhar Nair, Executive Director and Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Molbio Diagnostics and Cofounder of BigtecLabs also addressed the gathering the Guest of Honour. He emphasised that in India, we should build the products we use and seriously liberate the inner strength to build transformational products which will make our leap in international market.
A special talk titled “Transforming Lives, Strengthening India Together (Roche–NIPER)” was delivered by Ms. Sheetal Ranganathan, Chief Strategy Officer, Roche.
Further, there were different competitions held during the Foundation Day celebrations which included General Science Quiz, General Knowledge Quiz, and the oration competition on the theme of “Cyber Sexual Harassment- Protecting Women Online”. The winners of different competitions were awarded with the prizes.
Smt. Krishna Gulati award of Rs. 10,000/- was given to Mr. Somnath Kothawade Vaibhav of Medical Devices. Neha Shore memorial AIDCOC-NIPER Best Achiever Award was given to Ms. Parinishta Gupta of Dept. of Pharmaceutical Technology (Biotech.). Vaibhav Analytical Services Award was given to Mr. Jatin, Mr. Sayyed Aman Ajij, and Mr. Jennu Kumar Jain of the Dept. of Pharmaceutical Management.
During this occasion, NIPER also signed MoU with Roche Products (India) Private Limited and Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation. NIPER-Mohali and Roche Pharma India (a wholly owned subsidiary of the Roche Group, the world’s largest biotech company) today signed an MoU to partner in the areas of curriculum design and development, student mentorship, setting up professors of practice, and delivery of industry-relevant short-term courses aimed at making the students of NIPER-Mohali as industry-ready professionals.
Around 350 faculty, staff, students and invited guests from various institutes were present during the function. The function culminated with the vote of thanks by Prof. Prof. K.B. Tikoo, the Dean, NIPER.
