Mayor Saurabh Joshi salutes firefighters, appreciates blood donation camp held in memory of brave martyrs

Chandigarh, June 8: Chandigarh Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi today lauded the initiative of Fire & Rescue Services, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, for organising a Blood Donation Camp in memory of the brave firefighters who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty while serving the nation and protecting the lives of citizens.

The camp was organised at Fire Station, Sector 17, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Lion’s Club and with the support of PGIMER, Sector 12, Chandigarh.

Visiting the camp, the Mayor paid rich tributes to the martyrs of Chandigarh Fire Service and appreciated the dedication of firefighters who continue to serve society with courage and commitment. He said that firefighters are true heroes who, during fire and emergency situations, run towards danger while others move away from it. Risking their own lives, they make every possible effort to save human lives, property and public assets. He added that organising a blood donation camp in memory of fallen firefighters is a noble and meaningful gesture that reflects the spirit of service, sacrifice and humanity.

Earlier in the morning, Sh. Mandeep Singh Brar, IAS, Home Secretary-cum-Secretary Local Government, U.T. Chandigarh, inaugurated the Blood Donation Camp in the presence of Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh. Senior officers of the Municipal Corporation, office bearers of Lion’s Club, doctors and staff of PGIMER, and officials of Fire & Rescue Services were also present on the occasion.

Speaking at the inauguration, Sh. Mandeep Singh Brar appreciated the firefighters for organising the humanitarian initiative and commended their unwavering service to society. He said that firefighters perform one of the most challenging and selfless duties, working round the clock to safeguard lives and property during emergencies, natural disasters and fire incidents.


He noted that their role extends far beyond emergency response, as they actively participate in social welfare activities that strengthen community bonds and promote public well-being. Praising the blood donors, he emphasized that voluntary blood donation is a life-saving act and encouraged citizens to participate in such noble causes regularly.


The officials of Fire & Rescue Services expressed gratitude to PGIMER, Lion’s Club and all voluntary donors for their wholehearted support and participation. They reiterated their commitment to serving society and urged citizens to make voluntary blood donation a regular practice to help save precious lives.
