Congress’ Double Standards Exposed in the Name of the Constitution and Babasaheb: Suresh Kashyap

Shimla:  Former Himachal Pradesh BJP President and Member of Parliament Suresh Kashyap launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Congress leaders over their recent statements, stating that Congress expressing concern for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the Constitution is nothing but sheer political hypocrisy. He said the very party that misused and suppressed the Constitution for decades is today trying to project itself as its protector.

Suresh Kashyap said that the allegation made by Chief Minister Sukhu against the BJP for weakening the Constitution is completely baseless and misleading. He clarified that if any political party has inflicted the maximum damage on the spirit of the Constitution, it is the Congress. The Congress has the dubious distinction of imposing Article 356 the maximum number of times to topple elected governments across the country. It was also the Congress that imposed the Emergency and snatched away the fundamental rights of the people.

He said projecting Rahul Gandhi as the protector of the Constitution is a reflection of the Congress party’s frustration and political bankruptcy. During Congress regimes, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and backward classes were treated merely as a vote bank. Today, the same party is trying to gain political mileage by invoking the name of Babasaheb.

Suresh Kashyap said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP government has worked in a historic manner to translate Dr. Ambbedkar’s vision into reality on the ground. Be it the development of the Panch Teerth, national-level celebration of Constitution Day, strengthening of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, or welfare schemes directly benefiting the poor, oppressed and deprived sections — all these reflect the BJP’s sincere commitment to Babasaheb’s ideals.

He said that while Congress always exploited weaker sections for its political interests, the BJP has worked to give them dignity, rights and a rightful place in the mainstream. Terming the statement of Vinay Kumar as hollow, Suresh Kashyap said that Congress is adept only at symbolic politics, whereas real social empowerment has taken place under BJP governments.

He further said that today, the strongest hands safeguarding Babasaheb’s Constitution are those of the BJP. The party has always upheld national interest, social justice and constitutional values, and will continue to do so in the future. He questioned Chief Minister Sukhu to explain what concrete steps his government has taken so far in Himachal Pradesh for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and weaker sections.

In conclusion, Suresh Kashyap said that Babasaheb does not belong to any single political party, but the Congress has long lost its moral right to indulge in politics in his name. The BJP, he asserted, is truly incorporating Babasaheb’s ideology into the nation’s policies and intent in both letter and spirit.
