Khaira Accuses Punjab Police of Hijacking Block Samiti & Zila Parishad Elections in Bholath; Demands Immediate Suspension of SI Baljinder Singh for Raiding Congress Candidate’s House
Chandigarh: Sukhpal Singh Khaira, MLA Bholath, has strongly condemned the systematic misuse of Punjab Police in Bholath constituency, accusing the local police leadership of “brazenly hijacking the democratic process” ahead of the Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections.
Khaira stated that an atmosphere of fear has been deliberately created in Bholath by implicating Congress candidates and workers in false and fabricated FIRs, particularly FIR No. 251 dated 14.11.2025 of P.S. Subhanpur, which was registered almost four months after the alleged flood-relief incident “solely to intimidate and eliminate political opponents.”
Illegal 7 AM Raid to Stop a Candidate From Filing Nomination
Khaira revealed that on 4 December 2025 early morning, Sub Inspector Baljinder Singh, Incharge Police Chowki Nadala, accompanied by nearly 10 policemen, illegally raided the house of Gurjit Singh of village Chakoke, a Congress candidate for Block Samiti Zone Chakoke, to stop him from filing his nomination papers on the last day.
This raid was carried out despite the fact that Gurjit Singh and other accused had already been granted anticipatory bail by the court of ASJ-I Kapurthala on 2 December 2025, which clearly stated that police custody was not required, as all alleged “stolen articles” had already been recovered.
Khaira termed this action a direct violation of court orders and “a deliberate act to help the AAP candidate of the same village.”
More Congress Leaders Illegally Added to FIR 251
The MLA further said that SHO Subhanpur and Chowki Incharge Nadala have been continuously adding more Congress leaders into the same fabricated FIR to prevent them from participating in the election process.
Those newly nominated include:
1. Gurmit Singh, Sarpanch Butala
2. Punjaba Singh, resident of Butala
3. Three other Congress workers of Butala
4. Gurpreet Singh, Ex-Vice Chairman Block Samiti, V. Lakhan Ke Padde
5. Puran Singh, Block Samiti candidate from Lakhan Ke Padde Zone
Khaira alleged that these actions are based on statements “procured under pressure” from one Aap Sarpanch Jagtar Singh, who is himself an AAP candidate from Chakoke Zone.
“If not stopped today, police will continue nominating more Congress candidates”
Terming the actions of SHO Subhanpur and Chowki Incharge Nadala as “police terrorism,” Khaira warned that if the State Election Commission does not intervene immediately, “the police will continue nominating more Congress leaders and candidates to stop them from campaigning,” calling it a rape of democracy and a direct assault on free and fair elections.
Demands Immediate Suspension of SI Baljinder Singh
Khaira has demanded:
• Immediate suspension and transfer of SI Baljinder Singh and all policemen involved in the illegal raid
• Strict action against SHO Subhanpur for repeatedly vitiating the election atmosphere
• Assurance that Congress candidates are allowed to file nominations without fear, threat, or police intimidation
“State Election Commission must act today”
Khaira urged the State Election Commission to take swift and decisive action to restore democratic norms in Bholath.
“The elections cannot be free and fair if the police themselves become a tool of political vendetta. I urge the Commission to intervene today itself to prevent further sabotage of the democratic process,” said Khaira.
