PGIMER Celebrates Swachhotsav 2025 with a Fortnight of Swachhta Activities and launch of Swachhta Helpline to improve sanitation services.
Chandigarh, :Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, successfully concluded Swachhotsav 2025 today, marking the culmination of a two-week-long series of cleanliness and awareness activities held from 17th September to 2nd October 2025.
The campaign, conducted under the nationwide “Swachhata Hi Seva” initiative, witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, students, sanitation workers, and the community. The fortnight emphasized PGIMER’s commitment to creating a clean, safe, and sustainable healthcare environment.
Key highlights of the Swachhotsav included:
* Special cleanliness drives across Research Blocks, Hostels, OPDs, and surrounding areas.
* Awareness initiatives, including IEC installations, PPE kit distribution, and training of Swachhta warriors on hand hygiene and infection control practices.
* Community outreach , with school-based hand hygiene activities and sanitation drives in residential colonies adjoining PGIMER.
* Swachhta Walkathon to spread awareness about Swachhta at PGIMER
* Creative participation , such as Swachhta Rangoli competitions across centers and Swachhta activities with Pediatric patients.
* Capacity building, including workshops for sanitation staff on infection control.
* Healthcare through the “Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir” in which more than 600 Swachhta Karamyogi’s got preventive healthcare check-up done.
* Sustainability activities, such as tree plantation drives and the collective Swachhta Pledge to make cleanliness a way of life.
The celebrations concluded on 2nd October 2025, Gandhi Jayanti, with the Best Swachhta Karmayogi Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to maintaining hygiene and sanitation at PGIMER. A notable feature was launch of WhatsApp Swachhta Helpline to sustain ongoing efforts.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Vivek Lal, Director PGIMER emphasized that “Swachhata is not just an event but a movement. By adopting clean habits and practices daily, we can ensure a healthier environment for patients, healthcare workers, and the community at large.”
PGIMER reaffirms its commitment to making cleanliness and hygiene an integral part of healthcare delivery and community well-being.
