Khaira brands SEC Raj Kamal Chaudhry a stooge and mouthpiece of AAP; says he is complicit in the murder of democracy in Punjab

Chandigarh: Sukhpal Singh Khaira, MLA Bholath, today issued a scathing statement condemning the gross incompetence, abject surrender and shocking silence of Punjab State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhry, who has reduced his constitutional office to a mute spectator while democracy is being brazenly murdered during the ongoing Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections.

Khaira said, “We Congress and all opposition parties are extremely saddened by the gross incompetence and abject surrender of the State Election Commission of Punjab under Raj Kamal Chaudhry during the blatant LOOT of democracy by the Bhagwant Mann government.”

He said that instead of taking stern action against SSP Patiala, whose leaked audio blatantly revealed instructions to abduct candidates at the behest of AAP MLAs, the SEC has shockingly handed over a free licence to the police to falsely implicate opposition leaders like Sukhbir Badal and  courageous independent journalists such as Rattandip Dhaliwal on fabricated charges. Khaira said this conduct exposes the SEC’s complete collapse of integrity and independence.

Highlighting his own efforts, Khaira said, “I myself have emailed at least 10 detailed complaints regarding the wrongful rejection of INC candidates in Bholath and the terror unleashed by Kapurthala police on Congress candidates, but not even a single action has been taken. The SEC’s silence is condemnable and complicit.”

Khaira further said that Raj Kamal Chaudhry has behaved not like a constitutional authority but like a stooge and mouthpiece of AAP, shielding the ruling party’s criminal misuse of state machinery without hesitation.

He accused Raj Kamal Chaudhry of being interested only in enjoying the perks of office hefty salary, official car, bungalow, security and privileges while utterly failing in his constitutional duty to safeguard democracy. He said, “This behaviour shows Raj Kamal is completely devoid of moral conscience. He has betrayed the very Constitution he was appointed to protect.”

Concluding his statement, Khaira remarked that Raj Kamal Chaudhry’s tenure has contributed nothing except converting Punjab into a #PoliceState, where the ruling regime is allowed to openly rig elections while the Election Commission remains a mute spectator.
