Chandigarh Police Arrest Woman for ₹8 Lakh Immigration Fraud; Two-Day Police Remand Granted

Chandigarh, December 7:In a swift and coordinated action, Chandigarh Police have arrested a 29-year-old woman for allegedly duping multiple clients of an immigration company of more than ₹8 lakh by offering fake work permits and fraudulent visa-related documents.


The case was registered as FIR No. 71 dated December 6, 2025, under Sections 318(4), 336(2), 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with relevant sections of the Immigration Act, at Police Station 19, Chandigarh. The complaint was lodged by Navpreet Kaur, representing the immigration firm.

Ex-Employee Accused of Fraud

According to the complaint, the accused, Neha Bhagotra alias Aastha, daughter of Bhushan and resident of House No. 32, First Floor, Jhandpur Road, Old Sunny Enclave, Mohali, was an ex-employee of the company. She allegedly collected approximately ₹8,09,000 from various clients on the pretext of securing visas and work permits for overseas opportunities.

Instead of processing their applications, she is accused of misappropriating the money by transferring it to multiple accounts. She also allegedly issued fake offer letters to the victims.

Immediate Police Action

Upon receiving the complaint, the police initiated prompt action. After obtaining prior permission from the Hon’ble Magistrate, the accused was apprehended. On December 7, 2025, the investigation team secured two days of police remand to trace the flow of the misappropriated funds and identify other potential beneficiaries involved in the fraud.

Police also aim to recover the mobile phone used in the alleged transactions and communications with the victims.

Police Reaffirm Commitment

Chandigarh Police stated that they remain committed to protecting citizens from immigration-related frauds and will continue to take strict action against individuals exploiting people under the promise of overseas employment.
