WASHINGTON — September 19, 2026: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced an agreement with Denmark and Greenland that he says will give the United States permanent control over security and other security-related matters on the Arctic island.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the arrangement as an “Infinite Life” agreement and said it would come at “no cost” to the United States. He also said the agreement would prevent U.S. adversaries from establishing military bases, maintaining military personnel or making sensitive investments in Greenland without Washington's written approval.
Trump said the United States would **begin developing a larger military presence in Greenland**, working with Greenlanders on construction and development.
Denmark and Greenland confirm agreement
The governments of Denmark and Greenland confirmed that a security pact with the United States is expected to be signed during the upcoming **United Nations General Assembly** in New York. However, the agreement still requires parliamentary approval in both Denmark and Greenland.
Danish Prime Minister **Mette Frederiksen** said the agreement recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark, as well as Greenlanders' right to self-determination.
