Two separate National level competitions of Handball and Basketball, police players from across the country will show their prowess
The grand inauguration of 3rd All India Police Handball Cluster 2026 was held at Basic Training Centre (BTC), Bhanu of Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force. Under this prestigious National level sports event organized from 09 to 13 October 2026, Handball Competition and Basketball Competition are being organized. Talented players from various Central Armed Police Forces and State Police Organizations of the country are displaying their sports talent, physical efficiency, discipline and team spirit in both these competitions.
The Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony was Shri Sanjay Gunjyal, IPS, Additional Director General, Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force. While encouraging the players, he described sports as an important medium to develop physical and mental efficiency in police forces. He conveyed his best wishes to all the players participating in the competition to participate in the contests with excellent performance and sportsmanship.
In the ceremony, Shri Ramakant Sharma, Inspector General, Basic Training Centre (BTC) gave the welcome speech. While welcoming the players who came from different police forces of the country, he said that such National level events provide an opportunity to the players to showcase their talent as well as to learn from each other and strengthen mutual harmony.
The specialty of this cluster is that total 29 teams from 23 states and 06 Central Armed Police Forces are participating in Handball and Basketball, in which 740 male and 347 female, total 1093 players are participating, separate competitions are being organized. In both games, male and female players are entering the field representing their respective teams to become champion.
In Handball competition, fast speed, aggressive play, accurate passing, strong defence and ability to score goals will test the players. In this game, the course of the match can change in a few moments and therefore, along with the fitness of the players, the ability to take quick decisions will also prove to be decisive.
Whereas in the Basketball competition, a splendid display of speed, agility, ball control, accurate shooting, strong defense and team coordination will be seen. The fast-paced game of basketball tests the players' physical abilities along with their mental concentration and ability to take correct decisions under pressure.
In this year's competition, where new teams have entered the field with the intention of making their own identity, the champion teams who gave a splendid performance in the last edition are competing with the challenge of retaining their title.
In the last 2nd All India Police Handball Cluster 2025-26, the women's handball title was won by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), men's handball title by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), women's basketball title by Kerala Police and men's basketball title by Uttar Pradesh Police.
Now in this year's competition, these champion teams face the challenge of maintaining their supremacy. On the other hand, other teams are on the field with full preparation to change the previous results and emerge as new champions. This very contest is making this year's cluster even more exciting.
Handball and Basketball are both such games in which success cannot be achieved on the basis of individual talent alone. For victory, teamwork, discipline, tactical thinking, physical fitness, mental strength and the spirit to fight till the last moment are essential.
For police players, the importance of these games is even greater, because leadership ability, ability to take quick decisions, ability to remain patient under pressure and effective coordination with the team developed on the playground also play an important role in their professional duties.
When players from different states and Central Armed Police Forces of the country showcase their talent on the same platform, this event does not remain limited to competition only. It also gives the message of national unity, mutual brotherhood, sportsmanship and healthy competition.
On the field, each team will compete with full potential to win, but sportsmanship, respect for the opponent and mutual harmony will be the real spirit of this event. Players from different regions and cultures playing together also strengthens the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.
This cluster is also an important opportunity for young and emerging players. In this competition of national standard, they are getting an opportunity to compete with experienced players, test their abilities and gain experience of high-level sports.
In the upcoming matches, the players' preparation, strategy and ability to perform better continuously will play a decisive role. As the competition progresses, both the excitement and pressure of the matches will increase and ultimately only those teams will become winners who will succeed in maintaining continuity and patience during the entire tournament.
The Third All India Police Handball Cluster 2026 has started with this same spirit of sportsmanship and resolve for excellence. In this event which will continue till 13th October, police players from across the country will give their best performance on the field to prove their excellence in handball and basketball.
Now everyone's eyes are fixed on whether the previous champions will succeed in saving their title this time also, or some new team will create its new identity at the national level by giving a splendid performance.
At the end of the program, vote of thanks was presented by Shri Mohit Chawla, IPS, Deputy Inspector General, Western Command, Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force. He expressed gratitude towards the Chief Guest, distinguished guests, officers associated with the organization, referees, coaches, players and all collaborators and gave best wishes for the successful organization of the competition.
