Chandigarh, August 21, 2026: FITIG(Federation of International Trade Investor Gunodaya) Association, has honoured Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon who is also member of BJP's national council and co-incharge Himachal Pradesh BJP with the 'Bhamashah Award' for his contributions to public life and sustained commitment to social and community initiatives.
Tandon received the award at an international round-table conference organised by FITIG Association on ‘Towards Viksit Bharat 2047: Trade, Investment, Youth and Development’ at Kisan Bhavan, Chandigarh. He expressed gratitude to FITIG Association Chairman Aditya Khanna and Leaders’ Network Chairperson Amanpreet Singh for the honour.
Addressing the gathering, Tandon highlighted the need to preserve the dignity and effectiveness of democratic and parliamentary institutions.
“Do we want democracy, or do we want Demoncracy and mobocracy?” he asked, stressing that the strength of democracy lies in dialogue, dissent, deliberation and respect for constitutional institutions rather than disruption and confrontation.
Tandon questioned whether a few thousand people should be able to disrupt or hold to ransom a Parliament elected by crores of citizens. He said the mandate of millions of voters carries a responsibility to ensure that Parliament remains a forum for constructive debate, legislative scrutiny and accountable decision-making.
“Do you want discussions and decisions in Parliament, or theatrics?” Tandon asked, underlining that political differences and dissent are integral to democracy, but must find expression through debate and constitutional mechanisms rather than repeated disruptions.
He said that India’s transformation reflects the strength of purposeful governance. Tandon also highlighted India’s remarkable transformation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the country’s progress across multiple sectors demonstrates what focused governance, policy continuity and effective decision-making can achieve.
He pointed to India’s emergence as the world’s fourth-largest economy, rapid expansion of digital public infrastructure and UPI, major advances in space technology, growth in infrastructure and manufacturing, and the country’s increasing capabilities in innovation, defence and strategic technologies.
Referring to India’s achievements in space, Tandon said the country’s successful missions and growing space capabilities have demonstrated India’s ability to undertake complex technological programmes and emerge as a major global player in the sector. He said initiatives encouraging private participation and innovation in space technology are further opening new opportunities for young entrepreneurs, scientists and startups.
He also underlined the transformation taking place in areas such as roads and railways, renewable energy, electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, digital governance, financial inclusion and entrepreneurship, saying these developments are creating new opportunities for India’s youth and strengthening the foundation for a Viksit Bharat.
Tandon stressed that India’s continued development requires not only ambitious policies and economic growth but also strong democratic institutions capable of meaningful discussion, timely decisions and effective implementation.
He said the larger challenge before the country is to ensure that India’s democratic institutions remain effective while allowing dissent, debate and disagreement to flourish within the constitutional framework.
