Congress takes strong exception to border schools not celebrating Independence Day
CHANDIGARH, August 19: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today took strong exception to the reports that the Independence Day was not celebrated in the rural government schools, particularly along the border areas.
He said, this was an ominous sign and sought an explanation from the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann asking him whether there were any security concerns that the Independence Day was not celebrated in the schools in the border areas.
Warring noted that it cannot be without any reason and the knowledge of the government that all the schools along the border decided not to celebrate Independence Day. “There appears to be some serious reason, which the government is trying to hide”, he said, while referring to the cognizance taken by the National Human Right Commission on the matter.
The PCC president said that it is a serious and a sensitive matter and the government cannot afford to hush it up. “If the Independence Day was not celebrated for security reasons, then it is a cause of serious concern”, he warned, adding, “it calls for urgent attention by both the state as well as the central governments”.
