32 specially-abled school children receive sports kits under Competent Foundation’s ‘Haste Khelte’ initiative

Chandigarh, September 11: Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria  distributed sports kits to 32 specially-abled students at an event organised at Punjab Lok Bhavan under the ‘Haste Khelte’ initiative of the Competent Foundation, a charitable non-governmental organisation headed by senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon. Notably, the socially beneficial activity was held to coincide with Sanjay Tandon’s birthday.

Sanjay Tandon said that birthdays are an opportunity to repay society. “I wanted to mark my birthday by doing something different and meaningful. We felt that supporting young, specially-abled sportspersons by providing them with sports kits would be an appropriate way to celebrate. The ‘Haste Khelte’ initiative is aimed at promoting sports among children and providing practical support to young athletes, particularly those who face additional challenges in accessing sporting equipment and opportunities,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria said, “Initiatives like ‘Haste Khelte’ provide children with the resources and encouragement to discover their abilities and pursue their sporting aspirations. I commend the Competent Foundation and Sanjay Tandon for supporting young athletes, particularly specially- abled children, and helping remove barriers to their participation.”

Senior BJP leader and Competent Foundation head Sanjay Tandon said, “Sports have the power to transform lives. Through the ‘Haste Khelte’ initiative, our endeavour is to ensure that talented children, irrespective of their circumstances or disabilities, get the opportunity and equipment they need to pursue their sporting dreams.”

The students who received support under the initiative include Raghunath, Jai Vardhan, Sreenik Das, Saloni, Bobby, Yashika, Ms Sonia Rawat, Ms Deepanjali, Ms Priya, Ms Kishmandeep Kaur, Mr Sunny, Mr Aashray, Mr Deepanshu Dev, Lovekush, Srishti Bhargava, Aditya, Raju Gupta, Agamjot Singh, Mansharan, Ritik, Bobby, Subham Kumar, Ujjawal, Abhishek Kumar, Madhav, Hardik, Yuvraj, Janki, Himanshi, Prince, Nishant and Simran. The beneficiary students are from various government schools in Chandigarh. The kits have been given to the young sportspersons in accordance with their disciplines. These include kits related to the sports of Badminton, Javelin, Short Put, Cricket, Fencing, & Football among others.  

“Apart from helping sportspeople, The Competent Foundation regularly organises blood donation camps. Over the years, we have conducted 118 such camps and collected around 13,000 units of blood. The Foundation also undertakes several other initiatives focused on community welfare, including support for education, healthcare and youth development. Our efforts are aimed at contributing meaningfully to society and extending support to those who need it most,” Tandon said.
