Vijay Mallya Questions ‘Fraudster’ Tag, Cites Interest Calculations in Fresh Social Media Post

New Delhi: Fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya has questioned the manner in which he has been portrayed by the media, pointing to a calculation of amounts allegedly due to him and banks as evidence for what he describes as the need for “fair and proper accounting justice.”

In a post on X, Mallya shared a document titled “Calculation of Decretal Amount from 19.01.2017 to 02.08.2021” and another calculation concerning the amount allegedly due from a bank consortium with interest on excess amount.

“Do I still deserve the way I am berated by the media and referred to as a fraudster at the very outset of a journalist’s script?” Mallya wrote. He also questioned when he would receive a refund, asking, “Why not start asking when I will get my refund?”

The document shared by Mallya contains calculations involving interest at 11.5% per annum, with multiple entries running into thousands of crores. A separate section calculates an “excess amount” with interest and lists figures through August 2025.

Mallya’s post appears to be aimed at highlighting his contention that financial settlements involving him and the bank consortium should account for amounts that he believes are payable to him. The figures and claims in the document, however, are Mallya’s own calculations and should not be treated as independently verified financial findings.

The businessman has been involved in prolonged legal and financial proceedings linked to the collapse of Kingfisher Airlines and outstanding bank loans. He has consistently disputed aspects of the allegations and recovery proceedings against him.

Mallya seeks focus on financial settlement

The latest post shifts attention from the broader allegations against him to the accounting of money recovered or claimed by the banks. His question over a possible refund suggests that he wants the financial reconciliation between the parties to receive greater public and media scrutiny.

The development comes as legal and financial disputes surrounding Mallya continue to attract attention, years after Kingfisher Airlines ceased operations.
