PGIMER all set to Mark 63 Years of Excellence, Service and Innovation—Continuing to Shape the Future of Healthcare Tomorrow on September 7

Chandigarh : The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, will celebrate its 63rd Institute Foundation Day Tomorrow i.e. on Monday, September 7, 2026, commemorating over six decades of excellence in healthcare, medical education, research and service to society.

The Foundation Day will be held at the NINE Auditorium, PGIMER, with *Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, Vice Chancellor, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi,* as the Chief Guest. Prof. Chaturvedi has dedicated over 25 years to shaping the future of countless students in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Kanpur. As a former Director of IIT Roorkee, IIT Mandi, and additional charge as Director of Indian Institute of Advanced Study Shimla, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership and vision.

The programme will bring together the Institute’s faculty, staff, students and members of the PGIMER family to celebrate its rich legacy and reaffirm its commitment to excellence and public service.

Speaking ahead of the occasion, *Prof. Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER*, said, “

Foundation Day is a moment to pause, look back with gratitude and look ahead with renewed purpose. For 63 years, PGIMER has stood for excellence that is rooted in service, knowledge that translates into better patient care, and education that prepares the next generation to lead with competence and compassion.”

The Director PGIMER stated, “What makes PGIMER truly special is not merely its infrastructure, achievements or reputation, but its people—the faculty, staff, students and alumni who have consistently placed the patient and the larger interests of society at the centre of their work. Their collective commitment has transformed an institution into a living legacy..”

Prof. Lal further elaborated, “As we celebrate 63 years, we are equally conscious of the responsibility that comes with this legacy. The future of healthcare demands innovation, collaboration, technology and, above all, humanity. PGIMER will continue to embrace emerging opportunities while remaining firmly anchored to its core values of patient-centric care, academic excellence, scientific inquiry and service to the nation. Our endeavour is not simply to preserve the legacy we have inherited, but to build upon it and create an even greater legacy for generations to come.”

The Foundation Day Address will be delivered by Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, who will share his perspectives on the evolving landscape of healthcare, education and research and the role of premier institutions in shaping the future.

A key highlight of the celebrations will be the Award Ceremony honouring outstanding employees of the Institute. The recognition is a tribute to the dedicated contribution of PGIMER’s employees, whose commitment and service form the backbone of the Institute’s functioning and continued success.

The 63rd Foundation Day is particularly significant as it provides an opportunity for PGIMER to celebrate its journey while reflecting on the changing expectations from a premier healthcare institution. From providing advanced patient care to nurturing generations of medical professionals and contributing to cutting-edge research, the Institute has consistently sought to combine academic excellence with a strong commitment to society.

The Foundation Day therefore represents both a celebration of heritage and a reaffirmation of purpose—to remain at the forefront of healthcare, education and research while responding to the needs of a rapidly evolving world.

As PGIMER enters another year of its distinguished journey, the Institute looks forward to carrying its legacy forward with renewed energy, innovation and an unwavering commitment to the service of humanity.
